Given my adoration for hereditary I went and purchased this movie, midsommer, without having seen it before. This movie struck a chord with me in a very different way than hereditary did. This movie physically, emotionally, and spiritually messed me up. The final 20-30 minutes had me feeling disturbed to the point of feeling sick and light headed. I was very confused and disturbed by this movie. There were scenes that were difficult to watch because they made me so uncomfortable. Friends of mine wanted to skip scenes because they made us feel so weird. I've never experienced a movie like this before, so watch with caution. This is not a typical horror movie at all, it's far less horrory and more disturbing. Themes involving dark magic, drugging people, raping people, cannibalism, deliberate inbreeding for the purpose of creating genetically deranged people, human sacrifice, and extremely culty behavior are the key ingredients for this movie. I left the movie extremely disturbed and bothered. This movie is not for everyone. That being said I cannot wait to see what Ari aster comes out with next. This movie was a physical and emotional trip, not for the light hearted. I've been a huge fan of all kinds of horror my whole life and never seen something like this. I felt dirty after watching it, like I'd watched something influential that I shouldn't have seen. Still, i got what i was looking for. But I wonder at what cost. Good luck, viewers.

The first bit that properly shocked me was the elders suicide - I had to look away when his head was smashed with the hammer, it made me feel sick. Then when Dani is dreaming, seeing Marks face laughing at her through the car REALLY creeped me out. Im not sure why it did - but he just has such a creepy face, and as he didnt even want Dani there in the first place it felt all too real and creeped me out. I also had to look away seeing Simon in the bird house, that was freaking me out. I think he was turned into a blood eagle? But the end scene I had to watch with my dad after seeing Christian put into the bear. Its horrifying to know that he wouldve boiled alive in silence, not able to move or even scream. Just feel the pain. Dani smiling at the end was creepy, showing she had succumbed to the cult and had her new family. All in all it was a good film. But it was so shocking. It wasnt scary, it was just disturbing. I recommend it to anybody who hasnt seen it, but youll need a strong stomach.

I don't think the main character was happy again, I think she gave herself up to her own emotions and from that she forgot who she was and tried to bury everything from her past at the end by destroying her peers. Through pure destruction of herself she became insane, wiping her mind of all her problems by moving away and finding sanctuary in a new place and destroying her friends. She effectively wiped her mind by destroying her past and learning nothing from it, the environment gave her that opportunity instead of facing her problems, she had gained an echo chamber and new home.
